A balanced diet...

Occasionally, I get so excited, caught in the moment, that I forget about that little thing called lunch.  That is until my head goes a little woosy and my stomach yells, "feed me!" loud enough for an entire store to hear.

I was excited on Sunday.  I was discovering new thrift stores in Tacoma and finding sequined tops, silk scarves, and even this AMAZING fur jacket.  As I was fawning over this soft coat and the smooth satin lining, my stomach gave a tiny rumble.  With  glance at my phone I realized it is already 2 pm.  Oops!  I dug in my purse and found a Werther's Original candy.  Good enough for the moment.

As, I consult my list of stores, I realize there is another right around the block.  I step inside and quickly know some digging will be required.  My last Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie (my guilty pleasure) would have to hold my stomach at bay for another hour.  I discovered a red and black dress and a couple lovely blouses.

I headed to my favorite local deli, but came across a tiny antique store en route.  Another candy was quickly inhaled.  I found an amazing silk beaded top.  (I may keep this one;)).

I finally arrived home 5:30 pm.  Its dinner time.  So much for a healthy lunch.  Still, my three large bags of vintage goodies were totally worth it:)

Oklahoma... I have to move where?!

I had been living in New York City for nearly a year and a half when a move to Oklahoma began absolutely inevitable.  I wanted to cry on a daily basis.  I just HAD to fall in love with someone in the military.  A fellow native Georgian, he was just as unhappy about this half-year assignment to Oklahoma.  I was seriously considering whether or not our 3 year long distance relationship could handle six more months of hours in cars, planes, and trains.

I left the wonderful, incomparable, best-place-ever Brooklyn Heights in December 2010 and arrived in the arid, windy, flat, desolate Lawton Oklahoma just after New Years.  Depression hit immediately.  The best reviewed restaurant in town was a McDonalds; the best grocery store, Walmart.  Seriously?!

Then came Goodwill.  I had hope.  I pulled into the parking lot of an unassuming Goodwill on a cold Sunday afternoon.  The sale sign said Yellow tags were "buy one, get one."  Even better, Pink tags were only 99 cents!  I head straight to dresses and spot a silk jumpsuit, then a sweater dress with sequined shoulders, then hot pink chiffon.

I am drawn to the subtle ruffles on the collar of this chiffon gown.  Hey, a pink tag... only 99 cents.  GASP!!!  Does that say?  Oh Lord, it does!  That is a HALSTON tag!  An authentic one.  Seriously!?!  Once over my shock, I thoroughly inspect the dress, which I discover to be perfect.  I call and text everyone I know that could possibly appreciate my joy.

Ok, Oklahoma may not be so bad :)

Hello March

April has showers.  May has flowers.  March has St Patty's and green.  I am loving the green for spring.  I discovered an amazing kelly green blouse in a thrift store, now in my Etsy shop.  A week later I was thrilled to see a very similar blouse walking down a London runway during the Bora Aksu show!

A little sunshine

Yellow Houndstooth ShortsThis morning rather than the hoped for golden sunlight, I awoke today to a timid grey light filtering through my window.  Boo, I was hoping for sunshine.  There was even a heavy layer of fog left from the night's rain, which soaked me while walking the pooch.  The absolute dreariness of my Sunday reminded me of my time in Scotland and England... beautiful scenery and even better accents;)  How to fashion designers there avoid constant dreariness?  Well, they add an occasional burst of sunshine to their collections.  My latest fav from the London's Fashion Week is the yellow and black skirt from Holly Fulton's Fall 2011 Collection.  My vintage splash of yellow is a brilliant yellow houndstooth high-waist shorts, which are in my Etsy shop.

Seeing Red....

Red is the hottest trend this year.  Red is my favorite color.  Having spent my entire life as a hardcore UGA Bulldog football fan, red is an obvious choice.  Red does overwhelm my wardrobe, most likely due to red's ability to catch my eye in a store before any other color.  I have only recently decided to slow my collecting of red.  One can only have so many red T shirts, right?  (A small voice in my head is screaming, "Um, no.  Each one is unique, I swear!")  When it comes to my vintage collection, I make attempts to gather a variety of colors and patterns, but, of course, red does dominate.  My favorite piece?  This amazing 80s jumpsuit I found at a thrift store in Downtown Brooklyn.

I wanna dress up everyday

Most days, I stick with leggings and a T shirt.  However, we all know that is just boring.  Some days a girl is inspired to dress up.  I do not need an event or  a man... just dresses like this...

The first from Barbara Tfank Fall 2011 Collection.
The second from the 1970s, featured in my Etsy shop (click the link).

Bright Blue of the Runway

I have a long-lived attachment to royal blue.  Apparently, Preen does too, hence this dress from the Fall 2011 runway show.  I have a fabulous royal blue dress in my Etsy shop, Charli Alana Vintage.

The Halston of my Dreams

Actually, Halston is no longer of my dreams, but reality.  I found one!... for a ridiculously low price, because the thrift store proprietors did not know the value of the dress.  One of the very few perks of temporarily living in b.f.e. Oklahoma is that no one here seems to know designers.  So, here she is in all her pink-chiffon glory...

Life as a bug...

I love shine and sparkle.  My eye is always immediately drawn to anything gold, shimmery, or covered in sequins.  I am fully convinced that if I had a former life, I was a bug killed at a young age due to a strong attraction to shiny zappers;)

This is my latest and greatest 80s glam dress.
